ADVANCED WOUND CARE

Advanced wound care is a specialized and comprehensive approach to treating complex or chronic wounds that do not heal through conventional wound care methods. These wounds often require advanced techniques, products, and medical expertise to facilitate the healing process.

Some of the key components of advanced wound care include:

Wound Assesment

Thorough evaluation of the wound's type, size, depth, and underlying causes, such as vascular or metabolic issues is CRITICAL to finally getting a wound on a path towards successfully healing

Debridement

Removal of dead tissue (necrotic tissue) from the wound to promote healthy tissue growth and prevent infection. This can be done through various methods, including surgical, enzymatic, mechanical, or autolytic debridement.

Infection Control

Infections can hinder wound healing. Advanced wound care may involve aggressive infection control measures, including antibiotics when necessary.

Patient Education

Patients are often educated on wound care, nutrition, and lifestyle changes to optimize healing. Compliance with treatment plans is crucial for success.

Advanced Dressings

Specialized wound dressings, such as collagen, hydrocolloids, foams, alginates, and silver-impregnated dressings, are used to maintain a moist wound environment, protect the wound, and promote healing.

Biological Dressings

These dressings may include biological materials like skin grafts, amniotic membranes, or growth factors to stimulate tissue regeneration.

When used appropriately, these dressings turbocharge wound healing.

Several, very strict, pre-requisites must be met before application for these to be successful. 

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

This technique involves placing a vacuum-sealed dressing over the wound. Negative pressure helps improve blood flow to the area, remove excess fluid, and encourage tissue repair.

Full spectrum knowledge of these device's uses, creative application, and other factors is essential for successful use.

Compression Therapy

A critical element in managing any type of extremity wound with concomitant edema.   Several different variations exist and a thorough understanding of each type as well as patient education and Home health coordination is paramount to successful compressive therapy.

Moleculite

An all-in-one camera device used to detect harmful bacterial burdens not seen by the naked eye or evident on examination.  This camera allows us to stay ahead of infections before they become evident on examination. 

Wound was then debrided using the moleculite for targeted guidance.   Additional calluses were also excised to mitigate exacerbating factors

UltraMist

The UltraMIST System’s acoustic wave therapy promotes healing by controlling inflammation and reducing bacteria in the wound bed while increasing angiogenesis. Further promoting healing, it increases perfusion through vasodilation, ultimately increasing oxygen and nutrients to the tissue.

Greatly improved bacterial burden in the peri-wound.  Wound was then cultured with advanced testing methods to determine pathogen and genetic resistance for targeted antimicrobial approach.
